How to create a transparent background in Photoshop

1. Open Photoshop.

2. Create a new file with 200 x 200 size with 72 resolution and RGB mode. Background content should be WHITE.

3. Check out Layer palette. It will show the locked background layer. We will not do anything with background layer now.

4. Create a new layer.

5. Select the background layer and DELETE it using the “Delete layer” icon at the bottom of the layer palette. It is situated at extreme right side.

6. You have created a true transparent background.

Is there any specific reason you went with a 72 resolution? I do almost all my work in 300 dpi just in case it is going out for print.

As this is for a web site background you want a very low resolution so it loads better and you don’t need a huge amount of detail for a transparent background.

Cool, I don’t do many web graphics so it seemed a little foreign to me. I see you running Google ads like I am. Have they faired well for you? I found another ad company thats doing a bit better for me, if your interested drop me an e-mail.

I think having that 72 resolution is very small, y not having that a big one?

72 resolution is the default setting for any new photoshop image. If you want to increase it, that’s up to you.
