Oz Web Hub : the spot for the web design beginner

So you want a web site or a blog but you don't know where to begin

You will need a few pieces of software for designing and publishing a web site

You will need a web authoring program

I use Macromedia Dreamweaver because I am a visual learner. I like to see how the page will look as I go. It is a WYSIWYG program which means What You See Is What You Get. It also does some very marvelous things.

There is a new open source (free) program like dreamweaver now and it is called NVU It is very like dreamweaver and is for all platforms and all computers.

Web site builder is free and requires no coding skills but your host needs PHP 4.2 with GD and Zend Optimizer, or better.
Your web server must have MySQL 4.1.2 or better also.

Here is a good HTML tutorial which is also associated with an HTML editor Blaze Composer

You'll need to know about CSS

For css you'll need some other software. I use a lite version of Top Style. It's free. Pop over to read about how to use css

You'll need an FTP program unless you are using the online content management systems or a blog.

You need software to get your files onto your host's server.

AceFTP 3 Pro is a powerful and secure file transfer solution, designed for novices and experts alike. I love this one. There is a trial version there too. Learn how to use FTP

You will need some graphic programs

Adobe Photoshop is the best however. It does everything so much more professionally. As a cheaper option you might like Xara Graphics

You might like to learn by using templates

Photoshop templates
Oz Web Hub templates
CSS controlled templates

You just want someone else to design your site?

Quicksites is your answer or contact me

You might want a blog instead

blogger.com and WordPress.org are free.

For a blog which is an extension of a web site, like mine

Your server (host) must support at least PHP 4 and MySQL

You should also get a domain name and a host.

I use Host nexus as my host. I get nothing for recommending this server. You can find a domain name there also. Try to make the name short and representative of your content.
