How to make an ebook
When I made my first ebook I made it as an exe file, which can only be read by Windows users. I made the second one a PDF file and they can be read by Windows and Mac users as long as they have Acrobat reader installed. This is free.
In researching this topic, I have just discovered that to submit your ebook to C/net (one of the most popular sites to download software from) it now costs for software submissions. This was free when I did it.
But if you have something to sell, whereas both my ebooks are free, this fee might be worth it for you.
I have had some 3000 downloads of my first ebook, which brings a lot of traffic in the long run.
My ebook is now out of date as none of the links in it work. It links to a defunct web site.
Method 1- an exe file
You need to find an ebook maker and a cover.
Download this E-Book Compiler - Free Trial Download (sorry, this used to be free) or the one I used is at Jim's Ebookbuilder 4 You will need to scroll down a bit to see it. There is also a later one called Sbookbuilder 10, which I haven't used, on that same page.
EbookBuilder 4 will compile HTML and Text documents and images in the BMP, GIF and JPG format in a completely self standing Ebook executable that has all the files included in the executable in a compressed form. The Ebook itself can be read like a normal book with a left and a right page and page navigation buttons to flip through the book. Creating an Ebook just takes a couple of minutes: click and drag files and give the create command; Ebook Scripts and support for sound (wav, mid and mp3) files; print pages from your Ebook. NEW: single or two-page view; auto launch browser or email program; special include tags.
This is a new free one.

The basic idea is to make HTML files, one for each page of the book.
Once done you will need to submit them to ebook sites. Here is one. Do a Google search for more.

I
got a computer way back when. I was linked to the internet, before the
school I taught in had it. So I learned about computers first and then
as I was a teacher librarian I learned a computer system which we used
to computerize the stock. We had to teach students and teachers how to
use it. How to search. At home I was learning to use HTML and images on
the site I had back then. When the school was ready to create a site for
itself I was all for it and wanted to do it. However, the job was given
to the computer techie of course. After I left that school and at another
I had much more access to the internet and collected many sites suitable
for students and teachers to assist with their learning. Then, after retirement
I started learning web design and as I did, being a teacher, I developed
some tutorials, which you will find on this site. I also take photos.
