Podcasting, mobile phones, Mp3 players

I must be the last person in the developed world never to have used a mobile (cell phone) except in an emergency. I did have a mobile but it was one which could be used as home phone and as a mobile. It was mainly used as a second fixed phone in the house.

However, the technology supporting this kind of mobile will run out in August so I had to upgrade. The mobile phone was free afterall. The facility to use the phone as a fixed line is now obsolete though. It is a third generation mobile which can support emailing and browsers, but I didn't get that plan. I wanted the MP3 aspect, but not the camera and video as I had both of those two already, but I had to get those anyway.

I have listened to podcasts on the computer but now I had to learn how to download these podcasts to the mobile and how to download music to it. The music part is fairly simple. My mobile distributor was even suggesting downloading music from the place I advertise. You can download more than music from this site. You should be aware of copyright infractions by downloading from other sources. You can get all sorts of nasties from these fileshare programs also. It's worth joining up to something legal.

To download podcasts however, my radio choice recommends Juice. You need to download this first. It is free. Then your podcasts automatically appear in 'My documents'. Most podcasts were too large to download to the mobile however.

If you are familiar with PHP and want to create your own podcasts, here is a free podcast generator.

A lot of new features have been added to Podcast Generator 0.8: Podcast Generator now works with any type of media file: now you can easily create also a video podcast! Password protected administration. Detailed and highly customizable configuration file. Title and description fields shown in the "recent podcasts" and "all podcasts" pages. Easily customizable template pages via css. External template files; you can easily include Podcast Generator in existing websites. Xml feed improvements to meet w3c directives. Automatically add timestamp to the filename of uploaded files. Rename file on upload if already exists. Ask for confirmation on file removing. External script language file.
