Seamless tile background method 2
You will need to use this method if you want alternate squares in your background.
Lets say we want to combine these images which are both 100 x 100 and both seamless tiles.

and | ![]() |
Browse to open both these images and create a new image with transparent background 200 x 200 pixels
Select View > Change Grid and Guide Properties
In the Change Grid and Guide Properties box alter Vertical and Horizontal spacing to 50. Check the Snap to Grid box. Click OK.
Make sure that in the Selection tool options Antialias is unchecked and Feather is set to 0
Click on the new image to make it active. Double click on the selection tool
Check Custom size and position.
Now you want to move 2 of both boxes to the new image space
1. Set Left and Top to 0 and Right and Bottom to 100. Click OK. Copy this selection by Pressing CNTRL C and then Control E or Edit > Copy and then Paste > Paste as new selection, making sure that you click the old image you want to move before copying and the new space before pasting.
Drag square one to the upper left hand corner and it should snap to the grid lines. Right click to Deselect.
Click on the new image to make it active.
2. Set Left to 0, Top to 100, Bottom to 200 and Right to 100. Copy and paste as before to the bottom left corner. This moves square 2 to the upper right hand corner, if you have clicked on it before copying.
3. Set Left to 100, Top to 0, Bottom to 100 and Right to 200 and repeat stoeps. This should move the square you want moved to the lower left corner.
4. Set Left to 100, Top to 100, Bottom to 200 and Left to 100. Repeat steps and this should move the square you want moved to the upper left corner.

Having said all that, to speed this process up I found that I could set as per the first of those examples and the squares would snap into the place you dragged them to anyway.
